Welcome to Hitchin Town Bowls Club Website

Bancroft Bowling facilities are owned and provided by North Hertfordshire District Council and operated on their behalf by Hitchin Town Bowls Club.

As part of their agreement with North Hertfordshire District Council, Hitchin Town Bowls Club are obliged to open the use of bowling facilities to the general public.

Thus facilities at Bancroft  support a much wider usage by around a further 60 public bowlers who are comprised from members within a number of local Social Bowling Groups.

The outdoor bowling season starts 1st May and ends 30th September.  During this period, most afternoons and evenings in the week sessions are available for social bowling (roll ups), when the game is simply played for fun.

This is a good time to improve bowling skills and these sessions are open to anyone who holds a current Bowling Greens Season Ticket or who has purchased the appropriate single session ticket, both available in person from The Pavilion Bancroft Gardens.

Hitchin Town Bowls Club and all the Social Bowling Groups welcome applications for new bowling members.

Hitchin Town Bowls Club (established in 1929) is a mixed club with an overall club membership of around 50 members, and the club is affiliated to Bowls England.

During the summer outdoor bowling season Hitchin Town Bowls Club play many matches against other local clubs, usually on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and club member bowlers of all abilities are eligible to take part.

Competitions within Hitchin Town Bowls Club are open to Club members only. All abilities can enter and this provides much entertainment throughout the bowling season. Hitchin Town Bowls Club members may also enter all the County and National Competitions.

Hitchin Town Bowls Club has an ongoing commitment to provide safe bowling opportunity for young people.

During the summer outdoor bowling season the Social Bowling Groups play their own inter group games and organise their own Hitchin Midweek Bowls League.

Public bookings may be made at The Hitchin Initiative Office - Churchyard – Hitchin.

The bowling greens are open for most of the published times, however when there is no known demand for the use of the bowling greens, the bowling greens and bowls equipment store are kept locked.
